Actively Working Acquiring Knowledge Everyday

The AWAKE Program

The A.W.A.K.E. Program (Actively Working, Acquiring Knowledge Every Day) is a customizable life-skills, character-development, and fitness program that helps young people strengthen their minds and bodies. Through relatable lessons, mentorship, and physical activity, participants develop confidence, discipline, accountability, emotional control, leadership, and better decision-making skills. Our mission is simple: Change the mind, change the future.

Two key components

The AWAKE Program consists of two key components:

  1. 01

    Life Skills Development

    Seven-Week Series

Seven weeks of interactive lessons built from real-life experiences. Participants learn accountability, decision-making, emotional control, communication, leadership, goal-setting, and how to create a life plan that remains strong when challenges arise.

  2. 02

    A.W.A.K.E. Fitness Training

    Fitness and Athletic Development

The fitness component turns classroom lessons into action. Through structured workouts, team activities, and athletic training, participants strengthen their discipline, confidence, teamwork, resilience, and overall wellness.

Life Skills Graduation Day

Every participant who successfully completes the seven-week program receives a certificate of completion. It represents more than finishing a program—it celebrates their commitment, personal growth, and belief in what they can accomplish.

Our Purpose

AWAKE exists to give young people the knowledge to make better decisions before those decisions make them. Actively Working Acquiring Knowledge Everyday is not a slogan — it's the habit I ask every participant to build.

The program runs under the No Script Nonprofit, and reaches students through schools, juvenile probation programs, and community partners across the Houston area.

Virtual Series

The AWAKE Virtual Series brings the same curriculum to classrooms and groups that can't meet in person, so distance doesn't decide who gets access.

About

Good Kid. Bad Decision. Bigger Purpose.

I know firsthand that one decision can change the direction of your life—but it does not have to define the rest of your story.

I overcame adversity to become a first-generation college graduate and professional basketball player. After making a decision that led to federal prison, I chose to take accountability, rebuild my life, and turn my hardest lesson into a purpose bigger than myself.

Today, through No Script Nonprofit and the A.W.A.K.E. Program, I use my story to educate, mentor, and empower young people. My mission is to help them recognize their value, make better decisions, and understand that their current circumstances do not determine their future.

Change the mind. Change the future.

Brandon Johnson is a former professional basketball player, speaker, mentor, entrepreneur, and founder of No Script Nonprofit, an organization built from his belief that life does not come with a script.

Johnson’s journey has taken him through extraordinary highs, painful consequences, and ultimately, a life centered on purpose. Growing up in Houston, he experienced instability, hardship, and homelessness before basketball created an opportunity for him to change the direction of his life.

He earned a full athletic scholarship to the University of San Diego, where he became a first-generation college graduate and one of the most accomplished basketball players in program history. During his collegiate career, Johnson helped lead USD to the 2008 West Coast Conference Tournament Championship and an unforgettable NCAA Tournament victory over UConn. He later pursued professional basketball opportunities in the NBA and played professionally overseas for nearly a decade.

But his journey was not without mistakes.

Decisions Johnson made during his college years eventually led to his involvement in a sports-bribery and point-shaving case. He accepted responsibility for his actions and was later sentenced to six months in federal prison.

That experience became one of the defining chapters of his life.

Prison forced Johnson to examine who he was beyond basketball, accomplishments, and recognition. After his release, he rebuilt his life, returned to professional basketball, and began to understand that his greatest impact would not come from what he could do on the court, but from what he could teach through his experiences.

That realization became the foundation for No Script Nonprofit.

Through his journey, Brandon realized that life truly has no script. Plans change. Opportunities come unexpectedly. Mistakes carry consequences. Circumstances can shift overnight. What matters is how a person responds, takes accountability, learns, and chooses to move forward.

Today, Johnson uses his story to educate, mentor, and inspire young people, student-athletes, incarcerated individuals, schools, universities, athletic programs, and communities.

Through No Script Nonprofit, the A.W.A.K.E. Life Skills & Fitness Program, AWAKE Basketball, and his work in sports betting awareness and integrity education, he speaks openly about decision-making, accountability, adversity, leadership, integrity, second chances, and the power of choices.

His journey has taken him from homelessness to college, from March Madness to professional basketball, from success to federal prison, and from prison to purpose.

Each chapter has shaped the mission he carries today.

Brandon’s message is simple: your circumstances do not have to define your future, your mistakes do not have to become your identity, and the worst chapter of your life does not have to be the final chapter.

“God took the worst chapter of my life and turned it into the greatest book I could ever write.”

For Brandon Johnson, that book is still being written.

And that is why it is called No Script.

Change the mind. Change the future.
